Borrowing Policies

This tool library is stocked with tools received from donations. If tools are misplaced or damaged they may never be replaced in this library. Please keep this in mind when caring for and using the tools from the library.

To prevent loss, your borrowed tool must be returned to the library or tool connection owner directly, and not given to other residents. Passing your borrowed tool to another resident directly may affect your ability to continue borrowing tools from the library.

Eligibility

The Bayside tool library is a resource for the residents living at 30 Merchants' Wharf and tools are to be borrowed and used only by the residents of Artscape Bayside.

Youth

Residents under the age of 18 may require their parents to borrow the tool for them, if the tool they seek may cause harm to them when misused.

Costs

As Artscape Bayside is for low income artists it is not expected that residents will be required to pay to borrow tools or to replace tools that may be damaged during their regular use when borrowed.

Damage to tools

If a tool is damaged beyond use while in your care it is hoped that the tenant responsible for the damage would do what is within their means to support the tool library. This could include providing a new replacement tool, providing a used replacement tool, or providing another tool to help keep the library running.

If none of these options are available to you, it is only your responsibility to bring the damage to the attention of the tool library organizer so the tool will not be given to others and may cause harm.  You are not inherently financially responsible for a tool because you have borrowed it and used it.

If a tool is deliberately damaged while in your care you may lose privileges of borrowing from the Bayside Tool Library. It is the responsibility of the tool borrower to know how to correctly use the tools they borrow so they are not damaged during use.

Confidentiality

All resident information related to tool borrowing, tool lending, tool donations, tool damages and anything else related to tool library interactions will be kept strictly confidential.
