In our bathroom this thing was repeatedly getting crooked. Here's a pretty good fix to make it straight and keep it straight (hopefully).
Tools Needed:
1. 3/32” or 2.5mm allen key
2. ⅜” wrench
3. #1 roberts (square) screwdriver
Step 1: Use the 2.5mm allen key to loosen the set screw on the bottom of the face place. About 2 full turns will do it.
Step 2: Remove the arm and face plate
Step 3: Loosen the bolt with the ⅜" wrench (I took it all the way off to show you inside). Behind the bolt, you can see the paper holding arm ends in a square peg that fits inside a square hole on the face place. But the fit is not very tight, and the bolt is not strong enough to hold it in place for long, so thats why the arm gets loose. With the faceplate up (as below) turn the arm as far clockwise as it can go and reattach the bolt firmly.
Step 4: The anchor plate has two slotted screw holes. Loosen both screws with a #1 Robertson driver, slide the bottom slot all the way to the left and tighten them again. This will overcompensate for that loose faceplate fitting when we put it back on.
Step 5: Use the set screw to reattach the arm. Take care not to over-tighten the set screw or it can bend the anchor plate, just a bit past snug should do it. Enjoy your level toilet paper holder! 💩
Note: If the arm a little tips too far up, fiddle with moving the anchor plate back a little to the right. If its still slanting down, you might try redrilling the screw holes for extra overcompensation.
